Ink Tea Stone Leaf

A place to get the words out

Highlights from the first ever home game of the Marion Berries

  1. Fine summer weather after a rainy weekend.
  2. Both teams hit home runs, but the Berries’ home run was for three, and the Corvallis Knights’ was for two.
  3. We got to hang out a bit with the color commentary guy, who also hosts the trivia night we go to every week.
  4. The scoreboard wasn’t always totally accurate, but they figured it out after a while.
  5. The mascot “Barry” (a bear who loves berries) offered me a fist bump, then faked me out and tried to flip my hat.
  6. We met several fellow Padres fans, including an old guy who was extremely excited to show me his Chargers tattoo.
  7. Elementary kids playing catch on the sidelines and having a visibly wonderful time.
  8. Very nice picnic tables to sit on after my sore back could no longer handle the bleachers experience.
  9. There was a sellout crowd that seemed eager to support their brand new baseball team.
  10. The Knights score five runs in the top of the ninth inning, but the Berries still won 14-7.
