All my things are in the creek today
I have long since replaced them all
Many new things
Many more things
But my things are slimy with algae
Or something
I don’t know what that pink stuff is
There was a book about it on my shelf
And you guessed it — very slimy indeed
If a crawdad hasn’t eaten the pages I could reach a hand in
Root around a bit
Have a pretty bad time with pink slime
On my fingers, partway up my arm
I could thumb the moldy pages with disdain
Find the long forgotten name for a pretty bad time
Throw it back again
Wash my hands twice with soap
Remember I forgot to write it down
I could do all of that
But
My hands are clean enough already

*This poem is formatted so that the time stamps in the right hand column align with the last line of each block in the left hand column. Unfortunately, it only seems to work if you view this page with a desktop browser. When I checked it on my phone, it put the right hand column under the left hand column; when I flipped the phone horizontal, it placed them side by side, but the time stamps were no longer correctly aligned. If you are exclusively a mobile reader, I regret that I do not know how to fix this.
